New Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex now open

A former dairy farm’s $23.7 million transformation into the Central Coast’s premier community sport and recreation facility is now complete with the opening of the Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex.

Officially opened at the weekend, the 18 hectare complex offers nine playing fields, an amenities building (that includes accessible toilets, change rooms, canteen and store rooms), over 2 kilometres of shared pathways, landscaping, car parks and bus zones for drop-off and turning.

The facility is located at Tuggerah, close to the NSW M1 freeway and alongside train and bus transport, and is in close proximity to local communities and a major shopping complex making it a highly connected destination.

Central Coast Council invested $13.71 million towards the the Complex, with the Federal Government contributing a $10 million grant.

The Complex was opened at the weekend by Federal Senator Arthur Sinodinos along with Central Coast Mayor Jane Smith.

Mayor Smith said it was the biggest infrastructure project to be delivered on the Central Coast in the 2017/18 financial year, advising “the economic benefits that will flow to the Central Coast from hosting major sporting tournaments are huge - in tourism dollars and in creating local employment opportunities.”

While not in attendance, Federal Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the state-of-the-art facility is expected to generate an additional 57,000 visitors to the area each year, adding “ideally located near the northern rail line and M1 motorway and providing direct links to Sydney and Newcastle, we expect an increase in the number of players and spectators to visit the complex for a range of competitions and events.

“The project, which supported 70 jobs during construction and creates an expected 28 ongoing local jobs, has provided the first and only facility in the region capable of hosting major national, state and local sporting events.”
