New cable-ski park opens in Singapore
Singapore’s first cable-ski facility, Singapore Wake Park, has returned to the nation’s watersports scene after a two year hiatus and a change in management.
The new cable-ski facility at East Coast Park now features three state-of-the-art cable systems comprising two ‘System 2.0s’ designed for beginners and a full-size cable system for experienced wakeboard enthusiasts.
Taking over from former operator SKI360, new operator the Island Lifestyle Group has partnered with Sesitec, the German company renowned for designing and building cable systems worldwide, to install the latest cable-ski systems in the park to cater to both beginners and experienced riders.
The System 2.0 features a two-tower system that is especially well-suited to novices, with only one rider allowed at a single time, thus allowing the instructor to focus fully on the individual.
This makes wakeboarding highly accessible for adventure seekers, groups of friends and families.
The new Sesitec full-size cable system has six towers and six evenly-spaced carriers to take experienced riders around the cable-ski park. It uses advanced sensor technology to ensure reliable interaction among all components of the system.
Stable floating walkways on the edges of the lagoon serve as both a wave breakers for a smoother riding experience as well as platforms for riders to climb on and walk safely back to the starting docks.
Riders can perfect their tricks and hang-time in the air on the new obstacles by leading brand, UNIT Parktech, which are currently being built by the crew and will be ready by the end of the year.
In addition to wakeboarding, riders can either kneeboard or cable-ski, and try out different options depending on their skill level and personal preference. Both the full-size cable system and the System 2.0s are environmentally friendly, with low noise and zero greenhouse gas emissions. This improves the overall riding experience where the water quality in the lagoon is not compromised. The lagoon is also equipped with floodlights to illuminate the area so that riders can enjoy themselves until 10pm daily.
Island Lifestyle Group Director Ekanaga Saputra Hatta explains “as the only cable-ski park in the country, we wanted to create a place that is both easy for newcomers and challenging for wakeboard enthusiasts.
“Drawing on our experience in managing cable-ski parks overseas, we know we are not just building a new watersport facility; we are bringing together a community of like-minded individuals who have a penchant for adventure and new experiences.
“Singapore Wake Park will be a destination for locals and tourists alike, and a pit-stop for families and those exercising within East Coast Park vicinity.”
Aside from the three cable systems, Singapore Wake Park features shower facilities, changing rooms, lockers for the safekeeping of belongings and free wireless connectivity for guests to work and play. Cable-ski equipment, vests and helmets are included in the cable-ski package while visitors are also able to purchase their own wakeboard and swimwear accessories from the shop onsite.
Regular customers also have the option of renting storage space at the Park for added convenience.
The Park also offers spaces for people to gather and relax with wooden decks next to the lagoon allowing for comfortable lounging by riders who wish to take a breather or for spectators who wish to get a closer look.
