New BioLab non CYA stabiliser an industry first for commercial pools
BioLab has now launched the industry’s first non cyanuric acid (CYA) chlorine stabiliser which reduces chlorine usage by up to 80%.
Using photocatalysis to oxidise pool water, BioLab’s Dryden Aqua ACO® is the industry's first non CYA chlorine (and bromine) stabiliser.
For years, swimming pools have been using CYA to protect chlorine from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, which creates problems associated with perceived ‘chlorine lock’ and many commercial pools have been shut due to high concentrations of CYA, with no other chlorine stabilisation alternative until now.
BioLab’s ACO® product is a revolutionary chlorine and bromine stabiliser which will protect chlorine from photolysis from the sun and increase the half-life of chlorine by over 300%, while reducing chloramine concentration by 50%.
ACO® amplifies the performance of chlorine and also acts as a power oxidiser. Simply for outdoor pools, whenever the sun is shining the pool water is being oxidised of organic contaminates and residual chlorine is being protected.
The short-wavelength, energy-intensive ultraviolet rays from the sun are converted by ACO® into longer wavelengths. When this energy is released, it splits water molecules producing free radicals (hydroxyl radicals and oxygen radicals). They are even more powerful than ozone and can oxidise pollutants such as urea and chloramines completely back to carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O) and nitrogen (N2). So no combined chlorine or toxic disinfection by-products are formed, just clean, safe water. Whenever there is strong sunlight, ACO® will help to disinfect the water without forming disinfection-by-products.
Introducing the technology, Julian Quinn, National Manager for BioLab Australia and New Zealand, explains "developed by marine biologists for dolphin and marine mammal environments and now extensively used in swimming pools globally, ACO® is a highly engineered eco-friendly product that solves the age old debate on CYA and brings huge cost savings to aquatic facilities and safe healthier water for bathers.
"ACO® also extends the life of salt cells while greatly reducing the chlorine usage and oxidation demand in swimming pools. There are no disinfection by-products and turbidity is reduced by up to 50%.
"This is truly an industry changing product."
Benefits include
• Less chemicals: Oxidation demand is reduced by up to 40%.
• Healthier water: Chloramine concentration is reduced by up to 50%
• Clearer water: Turbidity is reduced by up to 50%
• Ecofriendly: No saturated water - no unnecessary chlorine overdosage
• In salt pools: A longer lifetime for all electrolysis cell
