New Australian Government regulations demand public gatherings of no more than two people

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has tonight advised of new regulations to restrict the spread of Coronavirus that include the restrictions of public gatherings to no more than two people - except for members of a household or for work purposes.

Prime Minister Morrison also laid out that there are now only four reasons for people to be away from where they live:

• Shopping for food and essential supplies, as infrequently as possible.
• Medical care or compassionate needs
• Exercise
• Work and education (if work or learning cannot be undertaken remotely)

The latest measures to restrict spread of the Coronavirus also include, states and territories putting a moratorium on both commercial and residential tenants being evicted for the next six months and, to help enforce social distancing measures, the closure of all public playgrounds and skateparks.

In addition, group fitness classes and boot camps - which were operating with up to 10 people - can only involve two people. Weddings will continue to be restricted to five people, and funerals to 10.

Under the latest restrictions, Australians will not be allowed to gather in any grouping larger than two, with only families or households excepted.

Speaking after a meeting of the National Cabinet, Prime Minister Morrison advised “hundreds of thousands of people have left the labour face, left the workforce, thousands upon thousands of businesses have had to shut their doors.

“16 people (in Australia) in total now have lost their lives, including two today. It is a very difficult time.”

Prime Minister Morrison added that further economic stimulus would be announced in the coming days.
