New appointments to Australian Sport Commission board
Federal Minister for Sport, Anika Wells has announced five appointments to the Australian Sports Commission board.
Led by Kate Jenkins AO as Chair of the Commission, Nick Green has been appointed as Deputy Chair, and new members Selwyn Button, Dr Chloë Flutter, Andrew Purchas and Lydia Williams joining the Board.
Lynne Anderson has also been reappointed to continue her contribution to Australian sport.
Members of the new-look board, appointed following an open national recruitment process, are:
Nick Green is a dual Olympic rowing gold medallist and senior executive, former Chief Executive of Cycling Australia, Director of the Australian Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Australia and was Chef de Mission of the 2012 Australian Olympic Team.
Lynne Anderson is a senior sport administrator, formerly as Chief Executive of Paralympics Australia, a member of Sport Integrity Australia’s Advisory Council and Chair of the Bulldogs Rugby League Club.
Selwyn Button is a Gungarri man from Southwest Queensland, an experienced leader of health, education, and governance organisations, and currently an Indigenous Policy Evaluation Commissioner at the Productivity Commission.
Chloë Flutter is a former Australian squad swimmer, Swimming Australia Board member and senior strategy and business transformation consultant with Boston Consulting Group.
Andrew Purchas is a former Vice President of ACON Health, an experienced senior executive in legal and financial services and champion of diversity in sport including as Chair of the Advisory Committee of Pride in Sport, founder of the Sydney Convicts Rugby Club and was President of the Bingham CupSydney 2014.
Lydia Williams is a Noongar woman from the south-west of Western Australia, a highly decorated Matildas goalkeeper and long-standing advocate for player rights and equality for women's football.
Announcing the appointments, Minister Wells advised “the board now has two Indigenous members and is 54% female providing a greater breadth of advice and experience as we strive to make sport more accessible for more people.
“This group brings to the Commission a wealth of expertise in sports administration, public service, business, law, and high-performance sport.
“We have just had an exceptional year in sport with record medal hauls and record investment in our Olympic and Paralympic sports and this board will help continue our momentum.
“I thank outgoing Deputy Chair, Andrew Ireland, and outgoing members Kurt Fearnley AO PLY and Amanda Laing who have completed their terms on the Board, for their leadership, dedication and vital contributions to the Commission and to Australian sport.”
