Netball court upgrades for Shellharbour’s Albion Park Rail

Shellharbour City Council is upgrading two netball courts at Albion Park Rail as part of the masterplan for McDonald Park with upgrades to the carpark also nearing completion.

The netball court renewal works include the replacement of turf netball courts with two hard surface courts, lighting to enable extended use of the courts and connection footpaths for improved accessibility.

Upgrades to the main carpark, located on Tongarra Road, include a new bitumen surface, a formalised entry and exit, lighting, connection footpaths, landscaping and drainage works.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said that the new additions to McDonald Park catered to the increasing demand for sport in the area and would enhance user experience.

Mayor Homer noted “as the west of the city continues to grow and develop, the importance of this large open space as a place of recreation, respite and relaxation increases.

“Albion Park Netball Club has more than tripled its membership over the past six years, going from five teams to its present 16 teams.”

“It is fantastic to see the McDonald Park Masterplan deliver such high-quality facilities to support our community’s current and future social and recreational needs.”

Mayor Homer thanked the Federal Government for its support in providing funding for the projects.

The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program contributed $740,000 to deliver the upgrades and Council invested $600,000.
