Tasmania team to be part of national inclusive netball competition
Tasmania is set to have its own team in the Marie Little Shield national inclusive netball competition for the first time later this year.
The Marie Little Shield national competition provides an opportunity for female athletes with an intellectual disability to represent their state in netball at the national level.
Advising that the Marie Little Shield team and national competition were great examples of safe, fair and inclusive sport, Tasmanian Minister for Sport and Events, Nic Street stated “creating spaces for sports that include all members of our community is important.
“Sports like netball play a key role in building community connectedness, improving health and wellbeing, and fostering skills like teamwork.
“The Marie Little team is a fantastic example of girls and women continuing to maintain their health and wellbeing through regular activity, and keeping their competitive spirit alive through friendly competition.
“The Tasmanian … Government is proud to support Netball Tasmania and the new Tasmanian Maria Little Shield team.”
Netball is a huge part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, with netball infrastructure upgrades taking place across the whole state.
This year’s Marie Little Shield national netball competition will be held at Brisbane’s Nissan Arena from 6th to 9th September 2024.
