National Sports and Physical Activity Convention offers agenda to help navigate the future of sport

The upcoming 2025 edition of the National Sports and Physical Activity Convention (NSC) will bring together local and international leaders to share insights, strategies, and solutions to help the Australian sports industry navigate challenges and unlock opportunities.

Advancements in digital technology, the needs of participants, and rising societal expectations are driving the transformation of the Australian sports industry - reshaping the way sports are managed and delivered across the nation. 

Being held on 25th and 26th June 2025, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, the NSC event offers an agenda designed for sport to make its stance in society, its capacity to drive positive change, and the strategies needed to ensure long-term sustainability. NSC 2025 will serve as a vital platform for sports leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to learn, connect, and evolve.

Harnessing the Power of Sport to Shape Society
Sport has an unparalleled ability to unite communities, inspire change, and address pressing social issues. One of the event’s flagship sessions, ‘The Power of Sport to Shape Society’, will delve into the role of sport in driving meaningful social impact. Naomi Shearon, Strategy Lead at Sport England, will provide insights into Uniting the Movement, Sport England’s 10-year vision that reimagines sport’s role in everyday life.

Jacqui Weatherill, Chief Executive of the City of Greater Dandenong, will discuss how sport can address social inequalities in diverse communities, ensuring access and participation for all. Additionally, Professor Anna Peeters AM, Chief EXecutive of VicHealth, will highlight the potential of sport and physical activity to drive broad societal change. These discussions will provide attendees with actionable strategies to create lasting impact through sport.

Impacting At-Risk Youth and Vulnerable Communities
One of sport’s greatest strengths lies in its ability to engage and empower vulnerable groups. The Impact of Sport on At-Risk Youth keynote session will examine how sport can improve outcomes for young people facing socio-economic challenges, those in care, or at risk of entering the justice system. Alexandra Ash, Chief Executive of The Y Australia, will discuss sport’s role in youth community development, while Julie McNeil, Chief Executive of Aspire Community, will share insights on sport as a vehicle for change in Indigenous and outback communities.

Managing Sport: Innovate, Collaborate, Elevate
The Managing Sport Stream will focus on how the industry can future-proof itself through strategic innovation and collaboration. A key session, ‘Partnerships – The New Sponsorship Dimension’, will explore how sports organisations can redefine sponsorships as long-term partnerships that create value for all involved. Attendees will hear from Adam Bishop, General Manager of Growth & Development at Australian Athletics, on how to start meaningful partnership conversations that positively impact local communities.

Kim Crane, Chief Executive of Paddle Australia, will lead an insightful session on Understanding New Age Media for Events and Participation, examining integrated opportunities in the evolving media landscape and how they can be leveraged to maximise engagement and visibility.
