Mount Lawley Bowling Club one of the beneficiaries of Western Australian Government funding

​The Mount Lawley Bowling Club is one of the beneficiaries of the Western Australian Government's $1.75 million funding boost for 27 sport and recreation infrastructure projects across the state. The Bowling Club will receive $60,967 to convert a grass green to synthetic surface. 

Mount Lawley Bowling Club President Terry Conley enthused "We're delighted to get approval for the grant. It's terrific. The club's looking forward to converting the grass to synthetic, which we've been trying to do for the past three years and we're finally able to make that happen.

"It'll ensure the playing surface is available all year round, and reduce expenses in maintaining the grass making the club more financially sustainable over the long-term."

The 27 projects are being funded under the latest small grants round of the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. https://www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/funding/sport-and-recreation-funding/community-sporting-and-recreation-facilities-fund/csrff-guidelines

The grants are expected to generate approximately $5 million in direct economic activity and will create around 40 jobs in the construction sector over the next 12 months.

The projects to be funded include:

• $150,000 to reconstruct a basketball court at Kalumburu;

• $142,500 to build a unisex change room at Exmouth;

• $98,960 to refurbish change rooms at Willetton Reserve;

• $83,189 to build unisex changerooms at Manjimup;

• $60,967 to convert a grass green to synthetic surface at Mount Lawley Bowling Club;

• $23,433 for a synthetic wicket and practice nets at Sir Ross McLarty Reserve in Pinjarra; and

• $12,926 for a pool hoist at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre.

Western Australia Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray notes "I am pleased that these projects are to be funded and that they will help kick-start the economic recovery at the grassroots level in local government areas around the State.

"The sport and recreation sector has an important part to play in WA's recovery and as Premier McGowan and I flagged last week the State Government will also fast-track the next CSRFF funding round to help support WA's economy.

"I am especially pleased that a quarter of the latest projects to be funded include the upgrading of change rooms or the provision of unisex change rooms which reflects the growing demand for female friendly sporting facilities."
