Bathurst Motor Racing Museum launches new attraction
Fans are immersing themselves in a new car racing experience at The National Motor Racing Museum located in Bathurst situated adjacent to the Mount Panorama motor racing circuit .
The National Motor Racing Museum has seen a positive response to its new immersive room which features three enormous screens that play an 11-minute video of the greatest moments from Mount Panorama's racing history.
A popular attraction over the recent Father’s Day, Bathurst Regional Council's museums manager Janelle Middleton advised that you could hear "a lot of oohs and ahhs" coming from the room.
Middleton added: "The feedback has been really good. It's an immersive experience, it's about getting in and actually seeing the cars and hearing the noises.
"They like the historic footage, it sort of gets them in the mood so when they're walking around the museum they're actually thinking about the race. It's not just a static display."
NSW Minister for Regional Roads and Transport, Paul Toole, notes: "The new immersive room at the National Motor Racing Museum has been completed with a grant of $50,000 from the NSW Government.
“This creates a virtual reality environment in a room showing racing around Mount Panorama from the 1960s to today.
“Three walls with images playing over 11 minutes and surround sound makes it feel like you’re in the race."
The National Motor Racing Museum celebrates the history, personalities and achievements of Australian Motor Sports. While Mount Panorama and the Bathurst 1000 is at the heart of the museum’s displays, they also look across the spectrum of Australian Motor Racing. The history of speedway, solar, drag, Rallying, open wheeler, sports car as well as touring cars is told.
The history of Motorbike racing in particular is given great attention.
The National Motor Racing Museum houses a collection of approximately 50 cars and 60 bikes, and includes an extensive collection of images, trophies and other important racing history memorabilia.
