Expectation for new Western Australian motor racing circuit
Backers of plans for a new international standard race circuit to be constructed in Western Australia are confident that the proposal will be approved by the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale in the coming months.
The proposal from Western Australian property developer the Stati Group is for a 3.5 kilometre circuit to initially be built for state and national racing, with longer term plans to entice Supercars and other international series including the World Rally Championship.
Located approximately 60 kilometres south of Perth in Keysbrook, the facility will be built to the standards of world motorsport governing body FIA and the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS).
With safety standards at a level with Australia’s top circuits, the facility will look to offer community-oriented programs including driver and rider training along with a diverse range of motor sport and other events.
Stati Group Project Manager Josh Hunt advises that the circuit’s high safety standards and track management systems will underline its credibility.
Documents from the Stati Group state “the proposed Keysbrook Motorsport Facility (the Motorsport Facility), will be a significant facility that will provide local and regional benefits to the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale and broader Perth Metropolitan Region.
“The Motorsport Facility will supply an advanced race circuit designed and constructed to Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) standards with a Go-Kart Circuit to Commission Internationale de Karting (CIK) level.
“This will enable the potential for national and international race events to occur on the site at a future time.
“Initially, the facility will be developed to host amateur state and national events.
“Eventually, the facility will be developed to a standard to host larger events such as V8 Supercars that have the potential to draw between 20,000 to 80,000 people.”
The circuit will run alongside CAMS approved circuits the Collie Motorplex and Barbagallo Raceway - which currently hosts Supercars - in Western Australia.
