Moree Artesian Pools redevelopment delayed by rains
Recent wet weather has disrupted progress on the redevelopment of the Moree Hot Artesian Pool Complex with the result that it will no longer be possible to open the pools for the October school holidays.
The Moree Plains Shire Council anticipates that the delay will result in the 50 metre Olympic pool being opened at the beginning of October, with the other pools coming on line in the following months.
The Council plans to open a temporary entrance to allow access to the new 50 metre pool and will continue to operate the existing artesian spa until the new artesian pools are commissioned.
Mayor Katrina Humphries said she is disappointed the community will be unable access to the new pools during the school holidays, stating "we did our best to make it happen (but) unfortunately, it doesn't take much to put a project off track when you're working to tight deadlines."
Despite the negative impact the rains have had on the pool redevelopment project, Mayor Humphries acknowledges that, overall, the rains were very welcome for the area.
Barring further disruptions to the project schedule, the Olympic pool will be open for business during the second week in October, but work on the rest of the redevelopment of the Hot Artesian Spa Complex will continue.
The ongoing work means that patrons will be required to use temporary change room facilities for a period of about two months.
It is expected that the project will be completed by February next year.
The redevelopment of the Moree Hot Artesian Pool Complex, being undertaken by Swimplex Aquatics, is a feature in the September/October 2011 issue of Australasian Leisure Management.
