More than 1.5 metres of snow at Falls Creek
Falls Creek Ski Lifts announced yesterday (22nd August) that the average natural snowdepth in the resort is now more than 1.5 metres.
Falls Creek Ski Lifts spokesperson Anthony O'Shea explained "we've had well over half a metre of fresh snow since this storm started on the weekend, including more than 20cm in the past 24 hours and more than 8cm already today.
"It's still snowing now and the biggest dump of this whole system is expected tonight. We're calling it Snowmageddon!
"Before we're through with this storm, we're likely to exceed the maximum depth from last season (183cm), and last season has been talked about as one of the best in years.
"The 2013 season may have been a bit stop-start to begin, but if you're only just catching up on the news now, August has been massive, with more than a metre of new snow so far. We have all 14 lifts turning, all 92 trails open, and all 450 hectares in Victoria's largest alpine resort covered in great snow.
"With all this fresh snow on a deep base and the weather clearing for the weekend, visitors to Falls Creek this weekend and next week will enjoy the best conditions of the season so far.
"Receiving all this snow in the second half of August really sets us up for a great September too. This year, September looks like being the new August. People can book their snow holidays with confidence and take advantage of great deals on advance purchase lift passes and accommodation late in the season."
Falls Creek is the largest alpine resort in Victoria with 450 hectares of lift-serviced terrain, and the gateway to even more extensive backcountry terrain serviced by Falls Creek's famous backcountry tours.
Falls Creek is also the only true ski-in, ski-out alpine resort in Australasia. This creates a unique alpine atmosphere and unmatched convenience for guests.
