Merri-Bek City Council opens new Fawkner Leisure Centre
Merri-Bek City Council has opened the $36.8 million redevelopment of its Fawkner Leisure Centre with patrons welcomed to the facility for the first time on Sunday.
Opened in time for the 2024/25 summer season, the official opening was preceded by a community open day which gave hundreds of people their first look at the facility.
Introducing the new facility, a Council spokesperson advised “the new centre is accessible, environmentally friendly and provides more options for people of all ages and abilities to experience a healthy and active lifestyle.”
Features at the Centre include a new 50m outdoor pool, water play pool, sauna, spa and steam room, gym extension including new program and group fitness spaces and cycle studio, new foyer, reception and café lounge area as well as landscaped outdoor seating and social areas.
The Council undertook extensive consultation with the local community to ensure their feedback is represented in the final design.
