Merlin to open Legoland Tokyo

UK leisure giant Merlin Entertainments Group is expanding to Japan, announcing that it will build a Lego-themed attraction in Tokyo's Odaiba waterfront district.

The 1.2 billion yen Legoland Discovery Centre will open next June at the Decks Tokyo Beach mall. It will feature 4,000 metres2 of Lego games and exhibits geared for families with children age three to 10.

This October, Merlin will open a limited-time exhibition of its Madame Tussauds celebrity wax figures in the same location.

Scheduled to open for just a few months, the company conceded that "if Tokyo residents and international visitors enjoy it as much as the other 12 Madame Tussauds attractions around the world, then Merlin plans to make it a permanent feature."

Merlin operates 74 attractions in 17 countries with about 44 million visitors a year.
