Melbourne Zoo welcomes first baby gorilla birth in 15 years
Melbourne Zoo is celebrating its first gorilla baby since 2000 after Western lowland gorilla Kimya, gave birth to her first baby on Saturday evening
Kimya, delivered her first baby at about 6.05pm on Saturday in Melbourne Zoo’s Gorilla House.
Keepers have yet to approach the mother to ascertain the baby's sex
The much anticipated arrival is the zoo’s first gorilla baby since 2000, bringing the total number of gorillas born at the zoo to seven.
The baby, the result of an endangered species breeding program for western lowland gorillas, is yet to be named.
