Melbourne residential development includes dramatic sky pool

A new luxury residential development in the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn features the city’s first sky pool, suspended seven storeys high between two buildings.

The signature feature of the Dahua Group’s $300 million Hawthorn Park development, which includes include 319 apartments and 11 townhouses, the transparent 32 metre sky pool uses technology from Italy’s Myrtha Pools to link the development’s two main buildings.

With a long lap pool and a splash pool, as well as expansive decking running alongside a landscaped sky walk, the total structure includes an 82,000 litre, 25-metre lap pool and a 75,000 litre, 35-metre-long family pool.

The pool’s 50-tonne stainless-steel frame was imported from Italy in two parts and winched into place via two cranes by builders Hickory, with six bridge bearers allowing the structure to move independently of the two connecting buildings.

The advance feat of engineering took over seven months to build, and more than a year of planning.

Designed by award-winning architect Rothelowman, amenities on offer to Hawthorn Park residents also include a wellness centre with a state-of-the-art gym, yoga studio and massage rooms, garden lounges and rooftop entertaining areas and a residents’ market garden.
