Melbourne gym owner cleared of charges laid by organised Victoria's crime task force
Melbourne gym owner and kickboxing trainer Paul Fyfield has been cleared of charges laid by Victoria Police's Joint Organised Crime Task Force.
As reported by Melbourne's Herald Sun newspaper, the organised crime task force had been investigating Fyfield, a schoolteacher and the owner of the FightFit Boxing Centre in South Melbourne, over several years.
Allegations of perjury had been made against Fyfield relating to accusations he made false claims about a fake drivers’ licence and passport in a hearing of the teaching watchdog in 2012.
Due to face a County Court jury on yesterday, Victorian prosecutors applied to discontinue the proceedings against Fyfield.
Earlier this year he was acquitted over charges relating to the theft of $1.1 million from an Armaguard van at a Melbourne shopping centre in 2006.
He had been charged over that matter in February, 2016.
Media reports have previously linked Fyfield, known by associates as 'The General', with Melbourne underworld figures.
