Medieval Knight and Opera at Sunshine Castle
The last month has been a busy period for the Sunshine Castle, hosting the latest in their Opera in the Castle concerts and, through the school holidays, Australia’s best known medieval knight.
The Underground Opera Company returned to the Sunshine Coast attraction for their 10th Opera in the Castle concerts on the 27th, 28th and 29th March.
Resonating through the Castle’s magnificent Great Hall, some of Australia’s finest voices performed a selection of pieces from popular operas and musical theatre showstoppers.
The performances featured nationally and internationally acclaimed artists Glenn Lorimer, Darian Di Stefano-Johns, Clarissa Foulcher and Udit Molnar and pianist Mr John Woods as well as your host Bruce Edwards.
With complimentary canapés served during interval in the Castle Courtyard and an audience limited to 100 patrons, Opera in the Castle set a high standard for an intimate evening of beautiful music and extraordinary voices in a wonderful setting.
Commenting on the performances, Underground Opera Director Bruce Edwards stated “visiting the Sunshine Castle has been a wonderful journey over the last five years.
“We have seen some incredible performances from our outstanding casts and this year has been even better.”
Australia’s biggest castle also welcomed well known medieval performer and educator, Sir Justyn during the school holidays, delivering medieval entertainment, education and recreation.
Sir Justyn's performances featured junior jousting, archery, canon fire, weapons displays and other medieval displays as well as a selection of educational and historical talks and presentations in the Castle’s Great Hall.
Justin Webb, better known as Sir Justyn, has been performing and teaching people of all ages about the Middle Ages professionally since 2004.
Performing across Australian and internationally with a range of groups from schools, seniors, festivals, functions, media, martial arts schools and Living History/re-enactment organizations; Sir Justyn is a qualified coach for archery and medieval combat and is the founder and director of Eslite d’Corps Living History group, Raptor Elite Medieval Martial Arts, the Australian War Bow Society and Sir Justyn Enterprises.
Located in Bli Bli, The Sunshine Castle has been run by its current owners and their company S&B Uhrig Pty Ltd since July 2006 and owned by the Benecke family since 2002.
