Masters Indoor Hockey played out in Goulburn

In conjunction with Goulburn Hockey Association and Goulburn Mulwaree Council the city of Goulburn has hosted Hockey NSW Indoor State Masters Championships over the past two weekends.

From 3rd to 5th February, 17 Men’s Masters teams made their way to Goulburn from across the state with the Illawarra South Coast team taking out the State Championships in the Finals against Metro South West.

Over the past weekend, from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th February, 37 Women’s teams made their way to Goulburn, with Illawarra South Coast continuing their success by beating Nepean.

The competition was held across two courts at the Recreation Area on Braidwood Road, with one court at Veolia Arena and the other at the Goulburn Basketball Stadium.

Over 500 competitors travelled to the Championships from Nepean, Parkes, Illawarra, South Coast, Sydney, Dubbo, Grafton, Bathurst, Port Macquarie, Newcastle as well as three local Goulburn teams.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s Business Manager Marketing Events & Culture, Sarah Ruberto said the City’s accommodation for the coming weekend is near at capacity, with so many visitors arriving in Goulburn for the Indoor State Championships and the Australian Blues Music Festival.

Ruberto stated “the Indoor State Championships attract thousands of spectators and athletes to the region with over 50 teams of Masters Players. Council secured the sponsorship of the Masters Hockey for $28,000, with the return on investment to the community with the players, friends, family and support staff expected to generate an economic benefit exceeding $1.2 million.

“Whether it’s for the NSW Indoor Hockey Masters or the 21st Australian Blues Music Festival, we encourage the community to embrace these events and welcome these visitors to our great City.” Goulburn Mulwaree Council are working hard to secure more sports tourism opportunities and are working closely with various sporting organisations in the community to do this.

Goulburn’s strategic location makes it an ideal host city for sporting events and Council have committed significant time and recourses to ensure local facilities are the best for these events, Council encourage potential sponsors for future sporting events to make contact.
