Massive interest in State Swim aquatic fitness programs
Growing interest in aquatic fitness equipment and innovative pool-based exercise programs is seeing a number of Australian firsts emerging in 2017, leading Julie Stevens of Adelaide-based State Swim to state “in 2017, the pool is the new gym”.
At the beginning of the year, State Swim, which operates at facilities in Mt Barker, Unley and Seaford, introduced Aquaspin™ – an in-water cycling program giving the extra fitness challenge of water resistance and the benefit of low injury risk.
Linked to the AquaBase FloatFit workout and existing programs Aquastrength and Aqcaupole, which State Swim had introduced in 2016, Stevens reports full class occupancy and massive interest.
While learn-to-swim remains State Swim's core business, Stevens explains that the aquatic fitness classes occupy her facilities at times when they are not generally used for swimming lessons.
Also, by rotating equipment between centres, classes stay are constantly revitalised.
Stevens explains “like all businesses, it is critical that you constantly evolve and although learn-to-swim will always be our core business, I was looking for ways to more efficiently utilise the pool space outside of lesson times.
“With a passion for fitness, I thought there was an opportunity to provide people with programs that are both new and innovative and would appeal to people who may not necessarily enjoy the gym environment.
“Exercise in water is such a fantastic equaliser – the harder you push, the harder the water pushes back! ... and, of course the other huge benefit is the low impact and therefore lower risk of injury.”
Registered Training Organisation (RTO) Active Training will also be hosting a one-day seminar covering all aspects of the fast growing aquatic fitness phenomena. The event is being staged at the ARC Campbelltown community leisure hub in metropolitan Adelaide on Sunday 9th July and will be addressed by experts in the world of Aquafitness.
