Manly Council to proceed with $15 million redevelopment of Andrew 'Boy' Charlton Swim Centre
Undeterred by local opposition and dissent among councillors, the $15 million redevelopment of the Manly Swim Centre is to go ahead, with Manly Council granting a development application for the project.
The Council's proposal includes a new indoor eight-lane 25 metre pool, a splash pool and waterslide, a spa and sauna, a fitness centre and a covered carpark while the facility's 50 metre pool would remain outdoors.
TompkinsMDA Architects have been appointed as architects for the project.
Opponents have dubbed the new indoor pool a 'water polo', suggesting that it will only be used by a small number of water polo players.
Manly Mayor Jean Hay used her casting vote to back the project in a Council vote this week, later stating "this is a fantastic project that will benefit the community."
