Rockdale Council advances new aquatic centre

Rockdale City Council is advancing its proposal for the upgrade of the Bexley Swimming Centre in Southern Sydney.

The Council commenced an extended public consultation as of mid December (with comments invited up to 2nd March), seeking feedback from residents, interested users, community groups and other organisations.

The proposed facility has been planned and designed by TompkinsMDA Architects with input from the Bexley Pool Reference Group (BPRG).

The proposed facility caters for a mix of recreational users and swimmers and would feature:

• A new outdoor 50 metre competition pool with a 600 seat grandstand and shade structure;
• An indoor recreation/children's play pool;
• An indoor eight lane 25 metre lap pool;
• An indoor program pool (warm water exercise/learn to swim);
• Spa, sauna and steam room;
• Creche;
• Community space;
• 700 metre2 gymnasium and fitness area;
• Kiosk;
• Change rooms and amenities;
• Administrative rooms;
• Plant room.

Bexley Pool Reference Group community representative Mark Hanna explains "should this upgrade become a reality, it will provide state of the art facilities for a broad cross section of the community.

"It is vital that Rockdale City Council be convinced that the project is worthwhile through a large number of positive feedback submissions."
