Major refurbishment works to be carried out on Jindabyne Indoor Pool
Snowy Monaro Regional Council has confirmed that Jindabyne Indoor Pool refurbishment works will begin on Monday 14th November 2022.
These works are expected to take approximately four months, with the facility reopening to the public in March 2023. The facility will be closed for the whole period.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Morgan explains “our team has been working in consultation with contractors, schools and other user groups regarding the current condition and planned refurbishments of the Jindabyne Indoor Pool.
“The closure is necessary for major works to be carried out to the roof, ventilation system and plant room.
“While we recognise that any facility closure is an inconvenience to pool users, it is necessary to ensure the long-term future operation of the Jindabyne Pool.”
The timing of the temporary closure has been planned in conjunction with the opening of the Berridale outdoor swimming pool season, ensuring swimmers will have an alternate location to use during the swimming season.
Jindabyne Season Passholders will receive a pro-rata refund on their pool passes dependent upon the final period of closure.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council had previously closed Jindabyne Pool in August last year due to the discovery of mould during a routine investigation linked to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system upgrade project.
The pool was then reopened in November 2021 with a temporary solution having been found. Council engaged a local builder who undertook minor works along with a specialist mould treatment organisation from Canberra. While this temporary solution was to ensure the mould did not return, Council acknowledged the air conditioning system needed replacing at a later date along with significant structural works in the ceiling and roof.
