Lookfit online comparison site aims to empower fitness consumers

Claiming to be “the iSelect of the fitness industry”, the new Lookfit website is aiming to apply the model of comparison sites - as used for booking flights, home loans, private health insurance and mobile service providers - to the fitness industry.

The online comparison site enables consumers to compare gyms, personal trainers, vitamins, supplements, weight loss products, and clothing and accessories from a single location. It currently compares in excess of 10,000 products and services from more than 350 businesses, including well known brands such as Lorna Jane, Running Bare, Swisse, adidas and Goodlife Health Clubs.

Lookfit founder and Chief Executive Jason Byrne sees that with Australians spending a large amount of their discretionary income on health and fitness products and services, they are potentially losing out on big savings because comparing options has been too difficult.

Byrne explains “Lookfit offers a way for Aussies to quickly and easily be able to compare all of their options by price, as well as other factors specific to each category such as location and program type.

“We’re at a point now where there are more gyms, personal training studios, and niche fitness providers than ever before.

“This means you can pick and choose the service provider that best suits your needs.

“You are doing yourself a disservice – and potentially missing out on hundreds of dollars a year in savings – if you don’t compare your options.”

Byrne sees the community aspect of Lookfit was another area that set the platform apart, adding “exercising and being healthy is very much a social and shareable endeavour, so we’ve integrated tools into lookfit that serve to maximise community engagement.

“Users can leave star ratings and reviews for products and services on the site, as well as see what other members have said.

“Lookfit has the same first mover advantage for the highly fragmented health and fitness industry, which puts us in the enviable position of being able to capture a significant slice of this massive market from the get-go.”

Even though providers of products and services have to pay for their listings, Byrne sees that Lookfit has “first mover advantage”, concluding “Lookfit (is) in the enviable position of being able to capture a significant slice of this massive market from the get-go.”
