LIWA Aquatics prepares for 45th Annual Conference

The Leisure Institute of Western Australia (LIWA) Aquatics is preparing to host its 45th Annual Conference and Trade Display.

Once again being held at the Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle, the conference offers delegates the opportunity to stay up-to-date with industry developments and see first hand the latest in technology.

Being held on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th August, key technical experts will be on hand to answer questions and provide advice across a range of subject matter.

The conference program is reflective of the needs of industry with Links Modular Solutions sponsoring the keynote address by Dr Justin Sempsrott, the co-founder of Lifeguards Without Borders (LWB).

Since 2006, LWB have backed the development of lifesaving techniques across the world, helping to combat high drowning rates in areas without access to lifeguards or information about drowning. The organisation aims to keep their focus broad and train people in the basics of water safety instead of sending lifeguards to specific locations.

Dr Sempsrott has made the history, definition, and treatment of drowning patients in the aquatic environment his lifetime focus and his presentations are compelling.

Other 2014 LIWA Conference presenters include:

• Michael Morris, Managing Director - Samuel Morris Foundation
• Craig Heal, City of Fremantle
• Lauren Nimmo, Program Manager, Watch Around Water
• Alex McKenzie, Chief Executive, Royal Life Saving Society Australia (Western Australia)
• Gary Johnson, Swimming Pools Technical Officer, Tamworth Regional Council
• Peter Leaversuch, General Manager Operations, Royal Life Saving Society Australia (Western Australia)
• Susan Burton and Lyn Ryan, Western Australian Department of Child Protection

The LIWA Conference is aimed at:

• Facility Managers
• Recreation Managers
• Recreation Officers

LIWA Aquatics is a not for profit organisation which provides support, accreditation services and professional development opportunities for aquatic facility managers across Western Australia.
