Lighting up remote Northern Territory sporting grounds

Two remote Northern Territory sporting grounds are to be lit up to enhance community engagement and activity as part of Budget 2023.

$2.97 million will be put towards the construction of oval lights at Gunbalanya and Kalkarindji, providing both communities with a large multi-purpose outdoor space that can be used for a variety of night time activities.

Enhancing these facilities will provide more time for community members to stay active and keep children engaged and involved in their communities.

The lights will transform the ovals making it practical for night time games and other sporting and recreational events.

Improving infrastructure in the bush also creates more opportunities for communities to hold other recreational activities and events and creates a fresh and vibrant atmosphere to connect and welcome community members, longer and later in the day.

Both projects are shovel ready, with works to begin this year.
