Les Mills wins top NZ award for global export success
Kiwi company Les Mills International has been recognised for its success in exporting fitness to the world - receiving the supreme award at the recent Westpac Auckland Central Business Awards.
After picking up a category award for excellence in exporting, Les Mills International went on to win the supreme award at the ceremony run by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
Les Mills International received the supreme award for its innovative approach to exporting group fitness programs to 14,500 gyms and clubs in 80 countries around the world, and for the success of these programs which now count 90,000 certified instructors as members of the Les Mills 'tribe' and which are undertaken by millions of people around the world each week.
Speaking at the awards, Les Mills Human Resources Director Emma Barry stated "at Les Mills, we work hard at what we do and this award is validation of the creativity and passion our people, our distribution partners, our instructors and all members of our Tribe put into this business.
"We want to change the lives of people all around the world and we see Les Mills' group fitness programs as crucial motivators to get people from all walks of life involved in fitness and healthier.
"Already there are millions of workouts at a Les Mills class each week and we continually innovate the way in which we deliver group fitness in order to keep people inspired and coming back for more."
Convener of judges, Roger Partridge, said Les Mills International impressed judges in all areas of business practice, stating "they invented their own market, executed on their strategy and they have to keep up the pace to keep ahead of competitors. They're an excellent entrepreneurial company and epitomise the export market for New Zealand."
Highlights that impressed the judges were Les Mills' innovation through its cutting edge group fitness programs and products such as the Les Mills Smartbar barbell equipment, lesmillsclothing.com clothing range and its export strategy.
The Supreme Award comes on the back of the Smartbar equipment recently winning the Purple Pin design award at the New Zealand Best Design Awards in October for the its cutting edge, ergonomics and innovation.
