Les Mills and UNICEF seal global partnership
Global fitness organisation Les Mills has announced a partnership with UNICEF built around the goal of creating a world where every child survives and thrives.
Together with its 19,000 gym partners and its tribe of 130,000 passionate instructors, Les Mills and UNICEF will coordinate a global event around World Children’s Day in November – to be known as MOVE THE WORLD.
With the participation of celebrities and activations in multiple countries on 18th November, MOVE THE WORLD will potentially be the world’s biggest fitness event.
All funds raised through the global fundraising campaign and one day fitness activation will primarily be used to help children and their families gain access to safe water, but also to health care and nutrition.
Water crises significantly impact children, especially the most vulnerable. When children have to rely on unsafe water, they become weak, malnourished and susceptible to water-borne diseases, which are among the leading causes of death in children under five.
Jonathan Veitch, UNICEF’s Deputy Director, National Committee Relations, Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division explains “access to water is a fundamental right and a life saving intervention. When children have access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene, they have more than just life, they have a chance to be healthy, to gain an education, and to have a brighter future.”
Les Mills International Creative Director Dr. Jackie Mills says the partnership is a perfect opportunity for Les Mills to deliver on its mission to help create a healthier planet, adding “we are absolutely committed to making a difference to the lives of children around the world and we’re honored to be an official partner of UNICEF.”
