Legoland Malaysia opens new water park

The opening of Legoland Malaysia's new waterpark is set to transform Legoland Malaysia into a resort.

Opening today (Monday 21st October), the first Legoland Water Park in Asia features more than 20 slides and over 70 Lego models for families with children aged between two and 12 years.

Introducing the new attraction, Legoland Malaysia Resort General Manager Siegfried Boerst explained "the water park ... will add a whole new dimension to the Legoland Malaysia experience."

Available to be enjoyed as a single attraction, or in combination with the theme park, Boerst added "the water park is a unique holiday destination for families to enjoy; offering adventure, education and fun."

Located in Nusajaya, Johor, the waterpark uses more than three million litres of water and offers highlights including The Build-A-Raft River where children can customise their own raft with Lego soft bricks before floating down a lazy river; the Joker Soaker, an interactive structure where children can shoot each other with water cannons' and a giant bucket that pours 1,70 litres of water into a wade pool.

In anticipation of the opening, Legoland Malaysia has been recruiting and training life saving staff and, immediatley prior to opening, extended the program to a group of seven youngsters who became certified Legoland Junior Lifesavers after undergoing training by professional lifeguards.

Having been awarded with premium annual passes that grants them unlimited access to Legoland Malaysia all year round, the seven young lifesavers will assist the Legoland team of lifeguards stationed there.

Following the opening of the waterpark, Legoland Malaysia will follow up with two restaurants and a seven-storey hotel with 249 rooms in 2014.

Since opening in September last year, Legoland Malaysia has surpassed operator Merlin Entertainments' target of one million visitors.
