Ledman launches China strategy for Newcastle Jets
China’s Ledman Group has announced that it has finalised its 100% takeover of A-League side Newcastle Jets FC, with Ledman Group President Martin Lee revealing a new China-based strategy for the club.
Speaking at a press conference today (6th July), Lee announced that the Jets’ business development in China was already underway with the new club Chairman showcasing the club’s three-tier partnerships in China, including the main partnership, the official partnership and the official sponsorship.
Lee also announced an objective for the Jets to qualify for the AFC Champions League within a few years, adding that he would be aiming for at least one Chinese player to be included in Jets’ playing squad.
Currently preparations are underway for the Jets to make a preseason tour to China as well as for youth football exchanges and football-related tourism activities.
According to reports, Ledman is investing up to $5.5 million in purchasing the club, with Lee, becoming the club’s fourth owner within 11 years, following on from the Football Federation Australia (FFA), Nathan Tinkler and Con Constantine.
Ledman Group is a Shenzhen-based manufacturer of high-tech LED signage. It is an official partner of the Chinese Super League and owns a club in China League Two, the third tier of Chinese football. Ledman is also a naming-rights partner of Portugal's Second Division and has a strategic shareholding in Infront Sports and Media Group.
Joel Griffiths, who played for Chinese football clubs Beijing Guoan and Shanghai Shenhua as well as the Jets, has been appointed as a Jets ambassador on the club delegation’s current Chinese visit.
