Launceston’s Junction Arts Festival secures Tasmanian Government funding until 2021

Launceston’s Junction Arts Festival, originally a one-off event associated with the 2010 Regional Arts Australia National Conference, and now an annual event in its seventh year, has secured state funding for the next five years.

Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman recently committed $1.25 million to the Festival until 2021.

Additionally, the City of Launceston has committed to funding Junction as one of the city’s Signature Events, committing $45,000 per annum to the festival for the next three years.

Commenting on the funding Tasmanian Sarah Courtney stated “‘I'm very excited that the future of Junction has been secured.  It is a brilliant event that keeps getting better.”

Junction 2017 will run from Wednesday 6yh September to Sunday 10th September, with the program to beofficially launched on Wednesday 26th July.

Festival Creative Director Greg Clarke commented “We can’t give too much away yet, but the 2017 program will definitely have something for everyone.

“What I can tell you is that there will be over 30 events with a real focus on showcasing Tasmanian music, art, performance, food and wine.”

Backing for the Fesitval follows Tasmania significant increases in visitor numbers over the past year, with a 16% increase in international visitors, higher than the national increase of 9% and the highest rate of international growth for all Australian states and territories.

The International Visitor Survey reports that Tasmania welcomed 250,300 international visitors during the year to March 2017, the highest number of international arrivals ever.
