Works underway to upgrade leaking Olinda Pool
Yarra Ranges Council has commenced work on the long-awaited upgrade of the Olinda Pool after confirmation of $500,000 in funding from the Victorian Government.
Works will include installation of a liner to the swimming pool to eliminate current leaks, renewal of existing pool infrastructure including plant and filtration equipment, refurbishment of existing toilet and bathroom facilities and construction of a new accessible toilet for people with disabilities.
Olinda Community Pool Association President James Edge told the Free Press Leader that despite a “tight timeline”, works were on track to meet a summer opening.
Edge stated "there has been a lot of work that has gone on getting it to this point (so) it is excellent to see that work has finally commenced on site.
“A lot of people have put a lot of work into campaigning for this and we’re now working towards getting it repaired."
Extensive cracking in the floor of the Olinda Pool (pictured) have raised the facility's water bills, and overall operating costs, in recent years.
The pool will be managed by contractors Belgravia Leisure through the upcoming summer season.
