Launceston City Council commences summer pool openings
The City of Launceston has advised that its First Basin Swimming Pool has opened to the public ahead of the November long weekend, with the Lilydale Swimming Pool on track to open later this month.
Advising that the First Basin and Lilydale pools represented fun and free swimming options over summer, Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten stated “our lifeguards will be on duty at the First Basin pool every weekend between 11am and 4pm from Saturday 30th November.
“Starting on Saturday 14th December, lifeguards will be on duty every day between 11am and 4pm through until February, when the weekend lifeguard schedule will resume until the last weekend in March.”
“The Lilydale Swimming Pool will officially open on Saturday 30th November and will be open each weekend throughout summer.
“Both facilities represent fantastic, free swimming options for Northern Tasmanian families, and we’d encourage people to take advantage of them.
“For those who are a bit more adventurous, we of course have the fantastic 65 metre-long waterslide at the Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre, along with the junior waterplay areas, lap pools and other attractions which make it such a popular community facility in the warmer months.
“No matter where you’re swimming this summer, please make safety a top priority. Remember that alcohol and water never mix. Keep children six years and under within arm’s reach at all times, and actively supervise children under 11 (years).
“It’s shaping up to be a great summer at the Aquatic Centre, Lilydale and First Basin, and we hope everyone has a fantastic time using these facilities this summer.”
