Landscaping complete on site of Georges River Council's demolished Kogarah War Memorial Pool

Landscaping works on the site of the Kogarah War Memorial Pool in the Sydney suburb of Carss Park have been completed with the new open space area featuring turf, landscape planting and picnic facilities.

With the Georges River Council having completed demolition of the former aquatice facility in June, work to deliver the temporary park area - as set out in the South Sydney Planning Panel Development Conditions - commended after remediation work on the site.

An adjacent temporary carpark site is now also being restored to community open space.

With the Pool having been closed in 2019 - despite the objections of community groups - in February, the NSW Government awarded the tender for the initial scoping and design work for a new aquatic facility on the site to MI Global Partners.

The consultancy was engaged to undertake scoping works to determine what is required to build a new aquatic facility at the site.

However, neither the Council or the NSW Government have provided updates on a timeline for the project, with its funding yet to be agreed between the two parties.

A June media release from the Council did advise that the new aquatic facility would "look" to include:

Multi-use outdoor 51.5 metre, 8-lane pool for competitive and recreational swimmers.

  • Learn-to-swim and leisure pool.

  • Toddlers' wading area.

  • On-site fitness centre.

  • Cafe and kiosk.

  • Car parking.

The rebuilding of the aquatic facility is part of Council's Open Space, Recreation and Community Facilities Strategy 2019-2036.
