Lagoon and aquatic playground to be central feature of Robelle Domain
Set for completion in May, a new outdoor lagoon will be the centrepiece of the Robelle Domain Parklands in the Brisbane suburb of Springfield.
The lagoon will feature a 50 metre long swimming area that will be 1.5 metre at its deepest point as well as a multi-level swimming area to suit swimmers of all skill levels.
Transforming an eroded gully, the 24 hectare site at the core of Springfield Central already offers a children's aquatic playground, 11 kilometres of boardwalks, walking and cycle tracks, sports fields and a stage and amphitheatre.
The Robelle Domain lies at the heart of the Springfield Central Parklands, a central open space corridor that connects the community of Greater Springfield that aims to become one of south-east Queensland's most popular pieces of public open space.
Other features of the Robelle Domain include waterfalls, cafe, water cascades, land art pyramids, art work, exhibition gardens, tree top walks and spaces suitable for large community events and gatherings.
The park's towering Ghost Gums have also been preserved to create natural shade areas and a green, healthy environment for city residents and park visitors to enjoy.
Commenting on the lagoon development, Springfield Councillor David Morrison told the Queensland Times that the winter opening of the lagoon would give the new management team a chance to resolve any teething issues.
Councillor Morrison stated "I see it as a positive thing.
"Whoever gets to manage the facility will have time to sort out any problems before the summer rush."
