Kyneton Aquatic Centre opens its doors

The Kyneton Toyota Sports and Aquatic Centre has opened.
The first indoor swimming facility in the Macedon Ranges town, the centre includes an eight-lane 25-metre swimming pool, warm exercise pool, fitness centre and squash courts, co-located alongside the siteâs original basketball courts.
Centre Manager Jon Ground said the $9.4 million project been a long time in the making, stating âit was planned for 10 years ago in the aquatic strategy and detailed planning began four years ago.
âKyneton has been in great demand for a facility like this and thereâs a strong community focus to provide it.
âThe Federal Government provided $5 million and we got $2.4 million from the state. The rest is from community and council.?
Ground said the opening was timed to coincide with school holidays to let the community make the most of the townâs new asset, adding âwe wanted to get through the school holidays and let the kids come and have a swim.?
Because of expected high demand the Macedon Ranges Shire has allocated two-hourly swimming session times for the opening with a maximum 200 swimmers per session.
