Kimberley community arts organisation receives funding through Commercial Development Grants Program

Community arts organisation, Theatre Kimberley has secured $29,004 in Western Australian Government grants funding to develop its future commercial sustainability.

The Broome-based organisation is well-known in the community. They have been telling local stories through circus, dance, puppetry, and music shows for the past 20 years, often travelling to towns and Aboriginal communities across the region.

The funding will help guide Theatre Kimberley's future direction through the development of a new strategic plan.

It will also enable the organisation to develop a suite of tools to position itself to potential funders and supporters, and provide training to staff in fundraising and grant application writing.

The Commercial Development Grants Program supports the development and growth of sustainable and professional creative practice in Western Australia.

To receive the funding, projects must demonstrate how they develop commercial potential, increase business viability and extend the market reach of those in the culture and arts sector.

Five projects across the State are being supported - from a music project in City Beach, visual arts and crafts projects in Anniebrook and Fremantle to another interdisciplinary project in Shenton Park.

Western Australian Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman stated "it is essential that organisations with local content continue to operate for the good of the whole community.

"Congratulations to Theatre Kimberley and I can't wait to see your fantastic future work."
