KidsTown adventure playground welcomes back visitors after floods
Greater Shepparton City Council advise that residents and visitors are once again able to enjoy the adventure playground KidsTown, with the facility reopening today after undergoing restoration from flood damage.
KidsTown’s grounds and areas of attraction have all been refreshed with newly laid soft fall and the precinct’s gravel pathways have been levelled, sink holes filled and new garden mulch laid.
KidsTown is located on Daishes Paddock, a site of historical significance to the local Yorta Yorta People. Founded in 1995 by the local community, KidsTown is now owned and operated by the Greater Shepparton City Council. Entry is via gold coin which all goes back to the operation and maintenance of the park along with funding annual projects to enhance the overall experience. Situated five minutes from Shepparton, KidsTown is less than a two-hour drive from Melbourne.
Greater Shepparton City Council Acting Director Community, David Booth, says getting KidsTown ready for use again has been a team effort with help provided from a number of community groups.
Booth shared “we would like to thank the hard work provided by many Council departments, as well as Kiwanis Shepparton Sunrisers, Corrections Victoria, Cleaves Earthmoving and Garden Supplies, Blow it Mulch and TakeOva Security.
“These groups have all helped get KidsTown ready to open its gates again and Council is very pleased to be reopening this much loved community asset.”
Rated by Timeout as one of Victoria’s best adventure parks and playgrounds, KidsTown Adventure Playground provides children of all abilities and families hours of entertainment. Spread over five acres, KidsTown features fully fenced play spaces, giant slides and a sensory fruit bin and dairy maze both paying tribute to the orchard and dairy industries that have flourished in the Goulburn Valley.
KidsTown’s Dig In Café and catering services, area bookings, indoor facilities, the Sprout Edible Garden and Disc Golf Course are available from this Saturday.
Unfortunately due to extensive damage the Miniature Train Line will not be opening for the foreseeable future.
