Jindabyne’s $1.5 million skate park to open in March
The eagerly anticipated, $1.5 million all-new Jindabyne skate kark is to open to the public on Sunday 24th March 2024.
The new skate facility was designed in collaboration with the Jindabyne Skate Park Project Engagement Group and the wider community.
The park boasts an exciting range of features, including a new half-pipe, mini-ramp, and a refurbished bowl, catering to skaters, BMX riders, scooter enthusiasts, and everyone in between. There's also ample seating and shade for parents and spectators.
The upgrade project, jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments under the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, has completely transformed this popular community facility.
The original park, opened in 2006, had served generations of local riders – but was starting to show its age. Following an extensive consultation and multiple rounds of revisions, the new park set to be unveiled next month shows what can be achieved when community, Council and government collaborate and work together.
Minister for Agriculture, Regional NSW and Western NSW Tara Moriarty said skate parks provide an important hub for local young people, so they can come together, connecting with friends and having some fun.
“The NSW Government is backing community projects like the new Jindabyne skate park because they play important role for a community especially those building back after the devastating 2019/20 bushfires.
“We are supporting the Snowy region with a range of significant projects and large investments, while ensuring the smaller projects that make a place better, like this one, are delivered along the way.”
Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Mayor Chris Hanna, says the new skate park offers something for everyone, regardless of skill level or preferred discipline.
“We're thrilled to unveil this fantastic new space, designed in collaboration with the Jindabyne Skate Park Project Engagement Group and the wider community,” Mayor Hanna enthused.
“It's not just about providing a place to ride, it's about creating a vibrant social hub where people of all ages and abilities can come together and have fun. We can't wait to see the new skate park open”.
The official opening ceremony will be held on Sunday 24th March 2024, from 11am to 3pm, at Jindabyne Skate Park on Bay Street, Jindabyne. There will be giveaways, demonstrations, live music, a sausage sizzle, and the chance for everyone to try out the new features.
