Ipswich park to feature outdoor CrossFit gym

Ipswich City Council has started work on the city's first outdoor CrossFit style gym at Sutton Park, Brassall, complete with a punishing beep test track.

The $280,000 project will feature Finland-based designer and manufacturer Lappset's range of play and sports equipment.

While Limestone Park and Sutton Park already have outdoor gyms, the new design will be located next to the existing equipment in Sutton Park to create a full cross fit gym facility.

The Sutton Park equipment will be set on a rubber-surfaced area. The project also includes construction of pathways, a seat and four shade trees.

Ipswich City Councillor Cheryl Bromage said the parks’ current outdoor gym had proven popular, explained “it has been so popular I wanted to expand on it, because not everyone can afford to go to a gym.

“I wanted to give people the same experience you would get by paying to go to a gym.

"We want people to get healthy, fit and active, but if there is a cost barrier, and distance for some people, it doesn't afford them the opportunity to do it."
