Investigation underway as fire destroys clubhouse at Orange golf club
The club house at the Wentworth Golf Club in Orange has been destroyed by fire, with emergency services having responded to reports of a fire at the Ploughmans Lane site in the early hours of Saturday morning.
NSW Fire and Rescue firefighters began working to combat a blaze at the Ploughmans Lane site at about 1.40am today, trying to extinguish the blaze in the clubhouse and restaurant building, and spent several hours throughout the night trying to bring it under control.
Nearby residents told the Central Western Daily they heard an explosion before the building burst into flames, but as of Saturday morning the cause of the blaze was unknown and is the subject of an investigation.
The Club issued a statement to its members via its Facebook page in which it said the building had been “destroyed”, advising “we can confirm the clubhouse has been destroyed, the pro shop appears to be relatively unscathed
“For the time being the whole facility has been closed off and a crime scene has been established.”
The Club offered its thanks to the firefighters for their efforts to limit the damage.
Competition and social rounds are currently cancelled at the Club.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
