International hospitality executive a victim of New Year’s Eve Hawkesbury River seaplane crash

Compass Group, one of the world’s leading food services companies, has confirmed that its group Chief Executive Richard Cousins and four members of his close family were among the victims of seaplane in the Hawkesbury River on New Year's Eve.

The Compass Group confirmed the news in a brief statement on its website earlier this week.

Compass Group Chairman Paul Walsh advised “we are deeply shocked and saddened by this terrible news. The thoughts of everyone at Compass are with Richard’s family and friends, and we extend our deepest sympathies to them.

“It has been a great privilege to know Richard personally and to work with him for the last few years. Richard was known and respected for his great humanity and a no-nonsense style that transformed Compass into one of Britain’s leading companies.”

The six dead included the seaplane pilot.

With brands including Eurest, the Compass Group is active in the attractions, sport and venues sectors in Australia, at locations including the Australian Museum, Queensland Museum, Museum Victoria Melbourne, Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo, Old Parliament House and the Taronga Zoo Function Centre.
