International Federation to celebrate World Circus Day

The Fédération Mondiale du Cirque has announced that it will celebrate international circus arts around the world on 17th April.

Launched in 2010, World Circus Day has grown year by year and in 2019 more than 328 events took place in 46 countries dedicated to the biggest and most important common festivities of the global circus community.

Aiming to raise public attention and to make circus arts better known not only to committed supporters but for those who could be attracted and engaged.

A Fédération Mondiale du Cirque spokesperson advised “on World Circus Day the international circus community is able to demonstrate our values, the cultural mission we have and the strength we transmit by celebrating together.

“2020 was an exceptional year due to the pandemic and still we don’t know how it will affect 2021.

“We have seen the hardship the circus had to face lately, but there are so many new initiatives bridging the impossible to the possible.

“The Federation calls upon all participants of the global circus community to start getting prepared and to take part in that important occasion.”

Fédération Mondiale du Cirque advise of “varied ways and methods” stakeholders can promoted World Circus Day, suggesting “you might publish articles; (work on) a short program for local television; offer online special classes or ‘did you know?’ documentaries about life in the circus, about how to be an artist, about the challenges of animal dressage and how that changed during the last couple of decades.

“You might offer online successful shows of yours from the past free of charge or you might invite online the audience for a special tour in your circus, school, museum etc. And if circumstances allow you always can organise in person circus picnics, special performances, back stage visits, meetings with famous artists, collectors of circus items etc.”

Fédération Mondiale du Cirque requests every year the participants in World Circus Day register their events before on its website, adding “it is highly important as we not only summarise the different ways you pay tribute to circus arts but we share this information at international level, which is an inspiration for the others as well.”
