Inquiry into Australia’s tourism and international education to have input from Attractions and Arts sectors
Australia’s tourism and international education sectors are in the spotlight today with the Trade Subcommittee of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade holding a public hearing/inquiry in Adelaide.
The Subcommittee will hear evidence from the South Australian Tourism Commission and several tourism and attraction operators in the Adelaide Hills region including Monarto Safari Park while also hearing from the Arts and Culture sector with input from Festival City Adelaide, South Australian Wine Industry Association and Arts Industry Council South Australia.
The Subcommittee will also hear evidence today from the international education sector including several universities, TAFE SA and StudyAdelaide.
Federal Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell, requested the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade (JSCFADT), through its Trade Subcommittee, to inquire into Australia’s tourism and international education sectors. The inquiry will explore the challenges and opportunities presented to both sectors since the reopening of Australia’s borders post COVID.
On 19th October 2023, the Trade Subcommittee tabled its interim report, titled ‘Quality and Integrity – the Quest for Sustainable Growth’: Interim Report into International Education’. The JSCFADT’s Trade Subcommittee will continue to accept submissions throughout the duration of this inquiry in preparation for its final report.
The Chair of the Trade Subcommittee, Senator Deborah O’Neill commented “The public hearing in Adelaide will focus on the intersection between international education and tourism rebuilding post COVID-19.”
