Inflatable waterpark for Otago

A new inflatable water-based theme park will open at Pisa Moorings, near Cromwell in Central Otago, in December.
Cove Entertainment Director David Robertson was granted resource consent last month by the Central Otago District Council to build the waterpark that will consist of 11 inflatable water toys, including a floating 22 metre-long volleyball pit, pillow-fight chamber and a slide at Perriam Cove.
Robertson said the park was an add-on to the newly opened Moorings Restaurant and Bar saying it will be a perfect playground for children to enjoy while their parents watched from the restaurant.
The council received 37 submissions, 34 supporting the proposed park, one supporting the proposal in parts and two opposing it.
Supporters felt it was a wonderful entertainment centre for children in Cromwell and Pisa Moorings and others visiting the area in summer.
The two opposing submissions concerned the safety of children using the inflatable water toys with boats in the area, and the visual effect of the theme park looking like a "circus sideshow" which could impact on the value of investment properties in the area.
Robertson said the park would be fenced off so boats in the area could not enter.
The consent allows the park to be open from 1st December to 31st March and requires a minimum of two staff members to be on the site to look after the 50 people who could be there at one time.
