Improvement program moves forward at Geelong Leisurelink
A program of upgrades being undertaken at Geelong’s Leisurelink aquatic and recreation is on target to be completed in June following the final stage of the redevelopment.
With construction of the tiled concrete pool progressing well, the final stage of the new and improved aquatic facilities will begin next month
The City of Greater Geelong advise “the toddler pool and warm water areas remain open and the gym/group exercise areas are not affected, but there will be some service changes as the finishing touches are applied to the project, which is delivering a new 50-metre pool and upgrades to the waterslide, splash park and concourse.”
To ensure key works can be safely carried out by contractor AW Nicholson, all aquatic facilities will be closed on 11th and 12th April, following which the warm water pool and spa will reopen on 13th April.
Once this is complete, the majority of the facility’s Webstar Swim School program will relocate to the warm water pool, with the learn-to-swim and toddler pools to remain shut for a scheduled seven weeks.
All aquatic facilities will again be unavailable for four days at the end of May, before the tiled 50-metre concrete pool is opened for the first time.
During the works, the Council has been encouraging users to consider visiting Kardinia Aquatic Centre - which is now open all year round – or another facility if scheduling clashes arise.
Commenting on the works, City of Greater Geelong Councillor Peter Murrihy, Chair of the Council’s Leisure and Recreation Portfolio, said the investment in Leisurelink would significantly improve the much-loved community facility, advising “the new 50-metre pool will serve the community for many years to come, so we thank everyone for their patience as the work is carried out.
“It will enable us to provide the best facilities for our residents to learn to swim, stay safe around the water, and to undertake vital rehabilitation and hydrotherapy.”
