IDEA announces cancellation of 2020 World Convention

The IDEA Health and Fitness Association has announced the cancellation of the 2020 IDEA World Convention, IDEA World Club and Studio Summit, and IDEA World Nutrition and Behaviour Change Summit.

Due to have been held from 8th to 12th July in Anaheim, California, USA, the events were called off due to public health and safety concerns caused by the unprecedented Coronavirus pandemic.

With the events to now run in 2021, Rebecca Garity, Senior Director of IDEA events, advised “despite making every effort to host the event as planned or to postpone it, the reality is that it cannot take place due to uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 crisis.

“Government and public health officials have yet to offer clarity as to when the current bans on large gatherings and California’s shelter-in-place order will be lifted, which makes it impossible to know when IDEA World can be hosted safely. While this is a difficult decision, cancelling the in-person event is the right thing to do given the extreme and uncertain conditions.”

The 2020 IDEA World Convention had been on track to be one of the largest fitness and wellness events in IDEA’s ® history. With more than 11,000 fitness, wellness, nutrition, business and mind-body professionals - including exhibit hall attendees and sponsors - gathering from over 60 countries.

IDEA® is now shifting its focus to develop alternate channels to deliver the content that was planned for this year’s IDEA World, plus the specialty programming planned for IDEA World Club and Studio Summit, IDEA World Nutrition and Behaviour Change Summit and IDEA Success Academy.

It has also advised of the dates of events in 2021. These are:

• 2021 IDEA Personal Trainer Institute - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - 18th to 21st February 
• 2021 IDEA World Convention and IDEA World Club and Studio Summit - Anaheim, California, USA - 7th to 11th July
