Horsham Golf Club $5 million clubhouse tees off
Horsham Golf Club has celebrated a significant milestone with the opening of the new $5 million clubhouse, which replaces the one destroyed in the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires.
Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty joined the celebration with Horsham Golf Club members and Horsham Rural City Council at the club at the weekend to reflect on how far the community has come since experiencing the devastating bushfires.
Minister Delahunty explained "the Horsham Golf Club was one of many landmarks badly damaged in the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires.
"I'm delighted to be a part of the official opening of this new clubhouse and to see everyone come together through their love of sport and passion to rebuild this community asset.
"The new facility not only means that the club will be able to host bigger and better tournaments, it restores a vital community hub and opens up new opportunities for locals, visitors and tourists to enjoy.
"(This) opening is a significant event for the Horsham community, signalling a new beginning."
The clubhouse features new change rooms, function areas, meeting rooms, storage areas, an administration area, bistro, members lounge and pro-shop.
Minister Delahunty said that the successful delivery of the project was a testament to the grit and determination of the golf club and the Horsham community to get back on its feet after the 2009 Black Saturday fires.
The Victorian Government provided $1.3 million in funding towards the project from a number of programs including, Living Regions Living Suburbs Program, Community Facility Funding Program, Bushfire Infrastructure Fund, Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund and the joint Victorian and the Federal Government's Community Recovery Fund.
