Hong Kong rope skippers break record for most skips by a team over a single rope

Over 100 Hong Kong school students have broken the Guinness World Record for the most skips by a team over a single rope.
The Coca-Cola Foundation Rope Skipping STAR Program 2011-2012, organised by the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Association, China (HKRSA) and sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation has created two new rope skipping new records today in Hong Kong.
Record one saw 14 Hong Kong rope skipping athletes undertake the most skips by a team over a single rope in three minutes. This success boosts their medal hopes for the upcoming World Rope Skipping Championships 2012 in July.
Record two saw over 100 primary and secondary school students secured their own new record for Hong Kong by having the most people skip rope simultaneously in a 'figure of 8', marking a new milestone of rope skipping history.
Flight Crew, a team of three world-class athletes, provided another event highlight by challenging members from the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Delegation through a demonstration match which showcased their trademark dazzling speed and unique skills.

HKRSA President Professor Amy Sau-ching Ha explained "we are delighted to see our rope skipping rising stars break the Guinness World Record once again, proving the world-class standard of the local rope skippers. While the quality of the athletes improves, we are successfully promoting rope skipping to an ever-increasing number of schools and continue to enhance the content of the Program.
"As well as providing teaching manuals to teachers and helping set up rope skipping corners at schools, the Program supports students to achieve energy balance by offering a complementary four-week rope skipping course to help them develop a regular rope skipping habit and understand fundamental nutrition knowledge."
The event also invited Bill Jackson, who won two World Championships and six US Grand National Championships; L. J. LaVecchia, who won overall first place title at the World Youth competition; and Lee Reisig, who has been skipping for 19 years and secured nine Grand National Championship trophies, to a demonstration match with three Rope Skipping Ambassadors and Hong Kong Rope Skipping Delegation.
With amazing jumping power, the three world champions integrated gymnastics, dancing and Kung Fu with rope skipping and demonstrated various difficult skills to challenge the Hong Kong team, who are internationally known for their speed, flexibility and skills. These breath-taking moves include a 720-degree twist, jumping over six skips and jumping over a partner with a backflip twist. During the day, both the Rope Skipping Ambassadors and world-class rope jumpers taught the primary and secondary school students the tips and skills of acrobatic rope skipping.
The one-year Rope Skipping STAR Program promotes rope skipping to over 7,000 students from 36 primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. Schools participating in the record breaking attempt included:
